UWG receives Charitable Gift Annuity

August 17, 2005

CARROLLTON, GA - The University of West Georgia received its very first Charitable Gift Annuity from a former professor and loyal supporter.

Dr. J. Lincoln DeVillier began teaching at the university in 1967 in the Department of Business and retired in 1979. He lives in Carrollton and attends many UWG events.

According to Ernie Henderson, director of Planned Giving, his charitable gift annuity benefits both his family and the university. This annuity provides a lifelong income for DeVillier and a beneficiary of his choosing. Other benefits of establishing an anunuity include reduced capital gains and estate taxes; and higher yields than the stock and bond markets. At the end of the agreement, the invested funds are turned over to the university.

The trend toward charitable gifts as a way to invest is becoming a popular option for investors and can include a variety of assets including land, Henderson noted.
