Russian educators visit UWGAugust 17, 2005 CARROLLTON, GA - Russian education officials traveled to
Georgia recently to visit the University of West Georgia. Sponsored by
the Georgia Council on Economic Education, the Russian delegation and
UWG educators in business, economics and education consulted on the importance
of economic education. Dr. Leland Gustafson, director of the UWG Center for Economic Education, coordinated the event. “We’re all very excited to be here,” Gustafson told the delegation through an interpreter. “This is a university-wide effort to educate all our children.” Congress passed legislation in 1995 that supports the Cooperative Education Exchange Program. The program is based on the theory that economic and civic education creates economic health and political stability of new democracies. “By collaborating between disciplines, we can accomplish so much,” said UWG President Beheruz N. Sethna. “We are doing great new things for teachers in all areas.” Other UWG administrators participating in the event were Dr. Faye McIntyre, dean of the Richards College of Business; Dr. Kent Layton, dean of the College of Education; Dr. David Boldt, chairman of the Department of Economics; and Dr. Bill Schaniel, director of the International Programs. -30- |
