New department chairs

CARROLLTON, GA - Six University of West Georgia departments have started the 2003 fall semester led by new chairs.

Three new chairs are serving in the College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Kevin Hibbard, professor of music, is the new chair of the Department of Music; Dr. Jane Hill, professor of English, is now chair of the Department of English and Philosophy; and Dr. Jane McCandless, professor of sociology, is interim chair of the Department of Mass Communications and Theatre Arts.

In the College of Education, Dr. Alvis Harthern, professor of early childhood education and reading and associate dean emerita in the College of Education, is interim chair of the Department of Special Education.

In the Richards College of Business, Dr. Ronald Colley, professor of business administration, is the interim chair for the Department of Accounting and Finance, and Dr. Salil Talpade, professor of business administration, is the interim chair for the Department of Marketing and Real Estate.

Dr. Ara Volkan, former chair of accounting and finance, is now serving as interim dean of the Richards College of Business. Dr. Glenn Novak, former chair of mass communications and theatre arts, has retired. Former English and Philosophy chair Dr. David Newton and special education chair Dr. Nancy Pollard have returned to the faculty, and former marketing and real estate chair Dr. Robert Hite and music chair Dr. Scott McBride have left the University.
