Guest Artists Concert September 18, 2003 CARROLLTON, GA - The Music Department at the University of West Georgia will present guest artists John Cipolla and Dr. Donald Speer performing music for clarinet and piano on Thursday, Sept. 25. The free concert will take place at 5:30 p.m. in Kathy Cashen Recital Hall in the Humanities Building. Cipolla is principal clarinetist with the Bowling Green Chamber Orchestra. He was a member of the Cats Broadway Show Orchestra for eight years, and he has performed with Radio City Music Hall since 1985. Cipolla has performed with such artists as Tony Bennett, Aretha Franklin, Johnny Mathis and Liza Minelli. He has also released two independent solo CDs: Baermann’s Bravuras and Free Sketches of Color. Currently, he teaches clarinet and saxophone at Western Kentucky University and performs workshops and concerts throughout the United States. Speer is an associate professor at Western Kentucky University, where he has taught group piano, piano pedagogy and accompanying since 1991. He performs frequently as an accompanist and chamber musician, and serves as a regional adjudicator and workshop clinician. The UWG Department of Music sponsors several guest performances each year. Future guests will include soprano Pat Calloway, who will perform a Schumann song recital in October with singer Larry Frazier and pianist George Mann, and renowned pianist and teacher Robert Pace, who will lead a piano workshop in February.
