UWG mentioned in Princeton Review September 9, 2003 CARROLLTON, GA - The Princeton Review has published a new guidebook to colleges and universities across the Southeast and the University of West Georgia has been included in the first edition listing the best 100 schools. The Best Southeastern Colleges showcases the top schools in 10 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. This regional guide features two-page school profiles with information and data on admissions, financial aid, student body demographics and academics. Dr. Robert Johnson, director of admissions at UWG, said, “We are extremely pleased to have been identified as one of the top 100 colleges and universities in the Southeastern region by The Princeton Review, a most respected name in higher education, and we consider this to be quite an achievement.” “Even
more significant is that we are included in the very first edition of
The Best Southeastern Colleges, along with outstanding educational peers
such as Emory University, “The University of West Georgia has much to offer students looking for a complete college experience, and we are appreciative of The Princeton Review's efforts to raise the public's awareness of quality institutions like ours,” Johnson noted. Robert Franek, Princeton Review’s lead author of the guide, stated, “Each institution had to meet two criteria. First, it had to meet our criteria for academic excellence within its region. Second, we had to be able to survey its students anonymously.” The survey asks students 70 questions about their own school’s academics, campus life, student body, and themselves. Input from students attending the schools makes the Princeton Review guides unique. UWG students’ comments concerning academics included: “Professors take time out of their lives to help you out.” “Instructors are often available in their offices for answering questions and they routinely accept calls at home.” “In the material they present, professors complement book learning with their research, ensuring that their credibility is up to date.” The Best Southeastern Colleges guide is available by calling 800-733-3000 or wherever books are sold. -30- Use
