Computer course offered for seniors September 9, 2003 CARROLLTON, GA - Anyone living in today’s technology-based society needs to understand a few basic computer skills — even senior citizens. Learning to use a computer might seem like an impossible task for senior citizens who do not understand computer jargon, but seniors do not have to be intimidated by computers anymore. This
fall, the University of West Georgia Department of Continuing Education
will offer several classes specifically aimed at teaching senior citizens
basic computing skills. These relaxed-paced classes will be taught in
an easy-to-follow manner and will only cover the necessities. The first class, Turning it On! on Sept. 30, will cover the correct way to turn a computer on and off and how to use the mouse, icons and taskbar. This is the most basic class for beginners, and it is essential for participants who do not have much experience with computers. On Oct. 7, Seeing Through Windows, another essential class, will teach students how to locate files and control windows. Paint, which will be offered on Oct. 14, will show participants how to create works of art on their computers. On Oct. 21, Letters that Need Stamps will cover how to produce letters, as well as create, save and print documents on the computer. In
Email on Oct. 28, students will create a free Internet mailbox, learn
how to attach files, send photos, open attachments and forward emails.
The last class to be offered will be Internet, on Nov. 4, which will show
participants how to explore free and The fee is only $19 for each class. In addition, the Continuing Education Department will offer May I Ask Just One Question, a $5 question and answer session on Tuesday, Sept. 23, from 9 a.m. to noon in the Ingram Library Computer Lab, which will allow seniors to ask basic computer questions.
