Susan Fleck: A DAY 2004 Chair

September 14, 2004

UWG News PhotoCARROLLTON, GA - “Dedicated: Wholly committed to a particular course of thought or action: devoted.” If ever a woman personifies this definition of “dedicated,” it is Susan Fleck, this year’s chair for the A DAY for West Georgia fund raising drive.

Nineteen years ago, Fleck was an A DAY volunteer stamping and mailing invitations. But since her involvement began in 1985, she has moved through the ranks of committee chair to vice chairman of the campaign to chair.

Last year, as vice chair for advanced solicitation, she coordinated the volunteer efforts of 75 committee members; this year her responsibility has expanded to more than 200 people involved in every aspect of the campaign.

“I handle it well mainly due to the great people at the West Georgia Foundation, but still I feel the pressure at times,” she admits.

The chairman’s duties include speaking engagements and overseeing progress of all components of the drive. According to Fleck, the key to being a successful chairman is “being able to surround yourself with outstanding people.”

The goal of this year’s campaign is simple—surpass the previous year’s total of $2.8 million! The campaign is off to a great start with enthusiastic participation in the Faculty/Staff Drive.

Fleck feels the A DAY campaign is very important to the University of West Georgia and the growing community of Carrollton.

“I am drawn in by A DAY because of what it means to the community,” she said. “It also attracts a higher caliber student to UWG, and most importantly, it provides resources to help students afford the cost of a higher education.”

Since Fleck now holds the position of chairman, she plans to continue her involvement in the A DAY campaign, and remain on the Board of Trustees of the West Georgia Foundation. As for advice, she recommends that next year’s chairman, Fred O’Neal, has fun, stays involved and then has more fun.

“Aspire, Accomplish, Astonish” is the theme of the 2004 A DAY for West Georgia campaign, and Fleck strives to do all three.

Susan Fleck is an astonishing woman who aspires to accomplish a goal of greatness for the University as well as the city of Carrollton.
