UWG professor to appear on C-Span October 1, 2004 CARROLLTON, GA - Booknotes, C-SPAN’s author interview program, will feature Dr. John Ferling, professor emeritus of history at the University of West Georgia, on Sunday, Oct. 3, airing nationally at 8 and 11 p.m. and again on Monday, Oct. 4, at 6 a.m. Ferling will be discussing his book, Adams vs. Jefferson: The Tumultuous Election of 1800, published by Oxford University Press. The companion web site to C-SPAN’s author interview series (located at www.booknotes.org/Programs/?ProgramID=1800) described the book as “a gripping account of a true turning point in American history, a dramatic struggle between two parties with profoundly different visions of how the nation should be governed.” The review continues, “The campaign itself was a barroom brawl every bit as ruthless as any modern contest.” Veteran historian Ferling has made numerous personal appearances to discuss the book at such locations as The Friends Select/Joseph Fox Book Event in Philadelphia, the National Archives Experience in Washington, and New York sites including the South Street Seaport Museum, the Copper Union and the New York Historical Society. An upcoming lecture will be presented at the Bostonian Society in late October. Ferling, a leading authority on American Revolutionary history, has appeared in many documentaries and has written numerous books including John Adams: A Life; The First of Men: A Life of George Washington; Setting the World Ablaze: Washington, Adams and Jefferson in the American Revolution, and the award-winning A Leap in the Dark: The Struggle to Create the American Republic. C-SPAN’s Booknotes has served as a forum for books about history, politics and public affairs for more than a decade. It is presented in an unedited, commercial-free format that allows for an in-depth discussion with an author. Beyond the book’s subject matter, authors are interviewed about the writing process, how and why they wrote their books, and about their lives and influences. The host of the program is C-SPAN CEO Brian Lamb. Guests have included Colin Powell, Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter, Neil Sheehan, Martin Gilbert, Jean Strouse, Betty Friedan and Henry Louis Gates. Booknotes allows a writer to appear on the program only once in their writing career. Ferling appeared on C-SPAN2’s program, Book TV, in September as part of a group of historians and authors to discuss American founding fathers and their struggle for independence from England. -30- |
