September 23, 2004

CARROLLTON, GA - The Townsend Center for the Performing Arts at the University of West Georgia invites students and adults of all ages to audition for the Not So Scary Fairy Tales, a Not So Haunted House for Children to be performed in late October.

UWG News PhotoBased upon childhood literature that comes to life in a puzzling maze of fantasy and theatre, the Not So Scary Haunted House takes place in a magical land where fairy tale characters lurk and giggle around every corner. In addition to such characters as a dragon and the giant lurking around Jack’s beanstalk, performers may audition for roles in the re-recreated worlds of Hansel and Gretal, Rumpelstiltskin, Baba Yaga, Rapunzel and the Three Billy Goats Gruff.

Director Jenny Lyle will conduct auditions on Monday and Tuesday nights, Sept. 27-28, at 7 p.m. in the Townsend Center’s Black Box Theatre. All character roles are open, and volunteers are needed for the positions of scenic painters, technical crew and operators, makeup and costume designers and tour guides, as well as to work with children at pre-show activities such as face painting.

Performance dates for the Not So Scary Fairy Tales are Thursday-Saturday, October 28-30, 2004. Tours of the Not So Haunted House will begin each night at 7:30 p.m. at the Townsend Center with pre-show activities beginning at 7 p.m. For more information, contact Renet Jones, general manager of the Townsend Center, at 770-836-6694 or Lyle at 770-832-6356.
