Guest Artist Kickoff Performance September 10, 2004 CARROLLTON, GA - World-renowned pianist Laura Gordy and award winning saxophonist Adam Pendleton are coming together for the kick-off performance of the University of West Georgia Department of Music’s guest artist performance season. On Wednesday, Sept. 29, at 8:15 p.m. in the Kathy Cashen Recital Hall of the Humanities Building, the duo will perform works by William Albright, Christian Lauba, Sophie Gubaidulina, Heitor Villa-Lobos, John Anthony Lennon and Ralph Vaughan-Williams. Pendleton, winner of the Western Illinois University Concerto Competition, has received numerous performance invitations from both the North American Saxophone Alliance Conferences and the World Saxophone Congress held in Montreal. He holds degrees in saxophone performance from the University of Michigan and West Illinois University, and has performed works by Pulitzer Prize-winning composers Gunther Schuller and Larry Thomas Bell. Gordy has performed solo and chamber music in the United States, Europe, Latin American and Asia. As the co-founder and co-director of the award-winning ensemble Thamyris, Gordy has pioneered music since 1987. She has received degrees from the University of Cincinnati, Rice University and the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa, and is now on the faculty of Emory University. Her recordings on contemporary music are available on Albany Records, ACA Digital Recordings, Capstone Records, Aucourant Records USA and Living Artist Records.
