Mascot panel discussion

CARROLLTON, GA - The Student Government Association (SGA) at the University of West Georgia will host a panel discussion on the issue of the UWG mascot on Tuesday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m. in the Bonner Lecture Hall on campus.

According to Jason Allen, SGA president, the panel will inform students, faculty and staff about important issues pertaining to the mascot including why it is important to have a University mascot and how the mascot brings about tradition and school spirit. They will also talk about the reality that the University is facing concerning the use of a Native American mascot.

Panel participants include Dr. Beheruz Sethna, UWG president; Mike Hester, assistant to the dean of the Honors College and chair of the Mascot Committee; and other members of the committee Dr. Barbara Kawulich, assistant professor of educational leadership; Ed Murphy, athletic director and men’s basketball coach; and student representatives Conrad Musey and Siah Collins.
