Professor appointed to NCATE Board Sepember 21, 2004
NCATE is a professional accrediting body for teacher preparation recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. The 25-member NCATE Appeals Board reviews complaints about accreditation decisions. A coalition of 33 specialty professional associations of teachers, teacher educators, content specialists and local and state policymakers, NCATE represents more than three million individuals. Its performance-based system of accrediting schools, colleges and education departments fosters competent classroom teachers and other educators who work to improve the education of all P-12 students. “Dr. Morris has a strong background in accreditation that should provide insight and leadership on the Appeals Board,” said Dr. Kent Layton, dean of the UWG College of Education. “Combined with his administrative knowledge and his experiences at UWG, they will make him invaluable in this service role for the profession.” Morris will serve on the Appeals Board from 2004 to 2007. He previously has served two terms on the NCATE Board of Examiners, which performs voluntary peer reviews of professional education units at colleges and universities. -30- |
