Alumni trip to North Georgia September 8, 2004 CARROLLTON, GA - With the promise of fall in the air, a trip to the north Georgia mountains with alumni and friends of the University of West Georgia should be on your calendar. UWG alums Donna and Howard McCombs own Southern Tree Plantation, Inc. in Blairsville and are hosting an outing for the whole family on Saturday, Oct. 2, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Cost is $10 per person that includes a BBQ lunch and bluegrass entertainment. Frank Pritchett, assistant director of Alumni Services at UWG, said alums are excited about the fall gathering. “We are trying new things and hope this family-oriented activity will appeal to the many alumni in the metro Atlanta area, as well as those living in the mountain region,” Pritchett said. “Fall is a beautiful season to spend quality time with our families and West Georgia is eager to provide means for that to occur.” Located in the heart of the north Georgia mountains in Union County, Southern Tree Plantation is an active plantation growing Christmas trees and pumpkins. It is open to the public during the fall season, Oct. 1 – 31. For the UWG alumni event, many family activities will be available that day for a minimum charge. A package price of $10 per person includes hayrides, kiddie train ride, petting farm, maze, barnyard playground, pony rides and a 22-foot tall inflatable slide. Activities may be chosen individually at a cost of $3 or $4 each. According to Howard McCombs, pumpkins will be available for purchase and the craft/gift shop will be open. The Alumni Association will not provide transportation so families can travel at their own schedule. Blairsville is approximately a two-hour drive from the Atlanta area. Make reservations by Friday, Sept. 24, by phoning Pritchett at 770-836-6582 or by email at alumni@westga.edu. -30- |
