Upholstery course offered September 21, 2004 CARROLLTON, GA - If you’ve priced new furniture lately, you know well-made furniture is becoming hard to find at a reasonable price. Luckily, you don’t have to buy new to get attractive, durable furniture. The University of West Georgia Department of Continuing Education is offering a course called “Upholstery” this semester that offers participants a chance to rejuvenate their old furniture into the latest style or a one-of-a-kind piece, exactly suited to their taste. In “Upholstery,” students will learn the art of laying and cutting fabrics, the process of taking furniture apart and putting it back together and how to do minor repairs. They will also complete their own project with individual instructor guidance. Participants must supply their own piece of furniture for their upholstering project. This course will be held in a working upholstery shop in Bremen on four consecutive Saturdays, Sept. 25 to Oct. 16, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost will be $179. “This is a very economical cost considering that you would more than likely pay more than $200 to have a chair sent elsewhere to be upholstered,” said Lauri Thompson, program coordinator for continuing education.
