UWG student awarded Steinway Sholarship September 22, 2004 CARROLLTON, GA - Thomas Carrington Vaden, a University of West Georgia senior from Lilburn, was recently awarded the 2004 Maestro Joel Levi Scholarship Award by the Atlanta Steinway Society. The award is named in honor of a former conductor of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
Vaden is completing a degree in piano performance with an emphasis in pedagogy under the direction of Dr. Carol Gingerich, assistant professor of music. He has performed with the West Georgia Chamber Ensemble and often accompanies UWG vocal and instrumental students. He has also been selected by audition to perform in the annual Wrights Scholars Concert and the Honors Day Recital. While he was a student at Parkview High School in Lilburn, Vaden accompanied various ensembles and was the pianist at a local Catholic church. He is currently working with the Carrollton Cultural Arts Center and the Carroll County Community Theatre in a production of Rogers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, and he accompanied for Ross and Adler’s Damn Yankees in March. -30- |
