Venezuelan guest artists present recital September 20, 2004
The duo will also present informal lecture-recitals for Spanish language and music classes throughout the day. Their evening program will feature an adagio by Mozart, a complete Brahms Sonata, “Frates” by Arvo Paert and several works by Sarasate, Revueltas and Ginastera. Lopez is currently the concertmaster of the Venezuela Symphony Orchestra in Caracas, which is one of the principal orchestras of the country. He is also a professor of violin at the Emil Friedman School. He completed his B.A. and M.A. in music from the University of Michigan and he is a founding member of the Friedman String Quartet. His orchestral work, Caribe Pirana, was premiered in 2000 by the Venezuela Symphony Orchestra.
In 2001 she performed several recitals in Caracas with flutist Karen Garrison, a faculty member at Auburn University. With Venezuelan violinists, she has performed in the southeastern U.S. during eight concert tours from 2000 to 2004, performed a series of recitals in Caracas during January/February 2004 and presented lecture recitals at the 2003 national meeting of the College Music Society in Miami, FL and Southern Chapter Meetings of CMS between 2001 and 2004.
