September 9, 2005
CARROLLTON,
GA - The UPS Foundation recently made a $5,000 gift to support the activities
of the Black Males With Initiative program at the University of West Georgia.
The program aims to develop a 21st century generation of leaders by equipping
selected first year African American male students at UWG with vital leadership
and success skills. The initiative is one component of the Center for
African American Male Research, Success and Leadership. Keith Jones (fourth
from right), program director for the UPS Foundation, visited the Carrollton
campus to meet the “end users of our philanthropy because these
young men are where the rubber meets with road.” On hand to accept
the donation from Jones and thank the UPS Foundation for its support were:
(l-r) UWG students Justin Batson from Conyers, Braddon Calloway from Dalton,
and Terrence Lewis from Alpharetta; Dr. Said Sewell, director of the Center;
Dr. Andy Leavitt, associate vice president of development and alumni relations;
Dr. Beheruz N. Sethna, UWG president; and Dr. David White, dean of the
College of Arts and Sciences.
