UWG Hosts GRHOTH Conference

October 11, 2003

CARROLLTON, GA - The University of West Georgia hosted the 2003 Georgia Residence Hall Organization Together for Harmony (GRHOTH) Conference in October to provide training and leadership assistance to students in residence hall councils around the state.

Comprised of students living on a college or University campus, a residence hall council works to encourage personal development and intellectual growth among campus residents. Members coordinate social and educational programs for residence hall communities and advise campus officials on matters pertaining to the quality of residential life.

The annual GRHOTH Conference is hosted by a different Georgia college each year. Last fall it was hosted by the University of Georgia.

This year’s theme, “Training Spaces, Trading Ideas,” stemmed from the popular Learning Channel hit show Trading Spaces, according to Kevin Hemphill, a junior from Douglasville and GRHOTH registration chairman. Participants attended sessions on diversity awareness, personal development, council development, program planning and programs aimed at advisors.

A letter by advisors to the UWG Residence Hall Presidents’ Council on the conference web site explained the choice of theme thus, “Just like the TV show Trading Spaces, it takes a lot of people with various talents and skills to successfully ‘redecorate’ your residence hall communities and transform them into the spaces in which our students will want to live, work and play.”
