Luso-Hispanic Day October 8, 2003 CARROLLTON, GA - The Department of Foreign Languages and Literature at the University of West Georgia will host Luso-Hispanic Day on Monday, Oct. 13, complete with cultural programming, food and music. The opening event will feature individual presentations during “Cultural Connections: Cuba and Mexico” to be held at 9 a.m. in Kathy Cashen Hall. At 10 a.m. in the same location, a panel discussion will focus on “Hispanic Presence on Campus and the Community: Challenges and Opportunities.” “Popular Culture of Latin America” will be the theme for the 11 a.m. session to be held in Room 1-303 of the Technology-enhanced Learning Center (TLC). At noon, the back deck of Cobb Hall will be the site of “Food, Fiesta and Fun.” A performance of Brazilian and Venezuelan songs will be presented by the UWG Concert Choir at 1:10 p.m. in Room 301 of the Humanities Building. Dr. Kevin Hibbard, professor and interim chair of the Department of Music, will conduct the choir. On Tuesday, Oct. 14, the film Central Station will be shown at 6 p.m. in TLC 1200. This film, directed by Walter Salles of Brazil, is part of the International Film Series sponsored throughout the semester by the Foreign Languages and Literature Department.
