Homecoming festivities planned October 2, 2003 CARROLLTON, GA - Lights! Camera! Action! The University of West Georgia is rolling out the red carpet for alumni and friends at this year’s Homecoming. The week-long festivities will begin on Monday, Oct. 13, and end Saturday, Oct. 18, with the Braves football game against West Alabama at 2:30 p.m. The Student Activities Committee (SAC) will host a Banner Contest at noon in the University Community Center on Monday in which various student organizations can make banners to advertise Homecoming. On Tuesday, the Homecoming Pageant begins at 7 p.m. in the Townsend Center. SAC will also sponsor a Sidewalk Drawing Contest on Wednesday. Any student organization can participate in the sidewalk drawings, which will be judged at noon. At 9 p.m. on Thursday there will be a pep rally in Love Valley to get students and athletes energized and ready for the game. On Friday at noon, the classes of the 1930s and 1940s will gather at the Food Services Building (Z-6) for a reunion. The group will enjoy a seated luncheon, which will feature highlights from UWG President Beheruz Sethna, a performance by UWG theatrical players and a nationally known pianist, Steve Long. The cost of the luncheon is $15. From 8 p.m. until 1 a.m., SAC’s Friday After Dark will be held in Love Valley. Friday After Dark is an event where students can get together to enjoy games, crafts, food, music and dancing. Saturday is the busiest day of Homecoming, beginning with the Alumni Board of Directors open house reception at the Alumni House at 9 a.m. Alumni are invited to drop by for coffee, juice and danishes. Then at 10 a.m., the annual parade down Maple Street begins. After the parade, the annual meeting of the Alumni Association takes place with a presentation of prestigious Alumni Awards and the election of new officers and Alumni Board of Directors members. The luncheon will be held in Z-6 at 11:30 a.m. and the cost is $10 per person. The Braves Booster Club will also present this year’s inductees into the Athletics Hall of Fame. The Braves football game against the West Alabama Tigers will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Grisham Stadium. Half-time activities will feature the crowning of UWG’s Homecoming Queen and King. At 6 p.m., the Golden Braves (Classes of 1950-53) will gather at the Alumni House for a wine and cheese reception, followed by dinner in the gardens. The Silver Braves (Classes of 1968-78) will enjoy a low country boil at the Maple Street Mansion at 7 p.m. The cost for the Golden Braves reunion is $17 per person and the Silver Braves Reunion is $15 each. Both include admission to the 8:30 p.m. performance of Magic Red and the Voodoo Tribe in the Maple Street Mansion Ballroom. Alumni not in the reunion groups can attend the performance for $10 each. Also at 7 p.m., Greek alumni of all classes are invited to gather on the third-floor deck of the Technology-enhanced Learning Center.
