Guest Artists Recital October 23, 2003 CARROLLTON, GA - The Music Department at the University of West Georgia is sponsoring a guest artist song recital on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 8:15 p.m. in Cashen Hall in the Humanities Building. The featured music is Robert Schumann’s song cycle, Myrthen (Myrtles) and will be performed by soprano Patricia Callaway, together with UWG faculty musicians Larry Frazier, bass vocalist, and pianist George Mann. Myrthen is dedicated to Schumann’s beloved bride Clara, and is the first of the many songs and cycles that he composed in 1840 after they were finally married. This collection of songs present both male and female points of view, and thus requires two singers. Some of the Myrthen songs are among the most popular of all Schumann's output. Guest
artist Callaway is a voice instructor for Piedmont College in Demorest
and LaGrange College, and is a graduate of UWG where she studied voice
with Inge Manski Lundeen. She completed her D.M.A. in Vocal Performance
at the University of Georgia in 2001. She also directed the opera program
at Brenau University for eight years. A dramatic coloratura, she has a
repertoire ranging from Bach, Pergolesi, and Mozart to Bartok and Berg.
She has performed most of the major Schumann song cycles with UWG’s
Mann. -30- Use
