Sorority Community Service Project October 17, 2003 CARROLLTON, GA - The members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority at the University of West Georgia cleaned up a section of Hwy. 166 recently as part of the Georgia Department of Transportation’s Adopt-A-Highway Program for their annual community service project. Six sorority members and about 35 other students volunteered to help with the program. Erica Carmichael, president of the sorority, said, “I look forward to more big turnouts for the rest of our community service projects throughout the fall, and I appreciate the students who came out and volunteered.” The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority adopted its highway in 1995 and has been responsible for keeping it clean ever since. According to Carmichael, members pick up trash on the highway about three or four times per year. Members of the sorority who participated were Carmichael, Tangela Hayes, Jennifer Favors, Tarrie McDaniel, Achie Hare and Maryam Ali. -30- Use
