UWG Professor recognized in Who's Who

CARROLLTON, GA - Dr. Satyanarayana Swamy-Mruthinti, associate professor of biology at the University of West Georgia, will be included in the 21st edition of Who’s Who in the World and 7th edition of Who’s Who in Science and Engineering.

UWG News PhotoWho’s Who in the World recognizes Swamy-Mruthinti’s many achievements in the field of biochemistry, including the discovery that protein reactions contribute to cloudiness of the eyes in diabetes and the aging process. He also discovered that aspirin could delay the development of cataracts in diabetic animals.

The Marquis Who’s Who editions started publication in 1899. There are a variety of editions that are grouped by professional field and region, as well as larger editions that include topics like Who’s Who on the Web and Who’s Who in the World. Each year Marquis releases different volumes that include comprehensive biographical information for leaders in every type of endeavor.

Swamy-Mruthinti is a regular contributor to the journals Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences and Experimental Eye Research. His writings have been incorporated into many books including The Mallard Reaction in Aging and Nonenzymatic Glycosylation and Browning Protein in Vivo and in Vitro.

Swamy-Mruthinti teaches classes in the biology of aging, developmental biology and biochemistry. He is currently serving as managing editor of the journal Frontiers in Bioscience. He has been a faculty mentor for over 60 students and also serves as faculty advisor to the American Medical Students Association.
