Donation to Traumatology Center October 28, 2003 CARROLLTON, GA - The American Association of State Troopers presented a check for $1,000 to the Center for Traumatology of the Department of Continuing Education at the University of West Georgia to support training programs for chaplains.
According to Burch, law enforcement is a very high stress profession that exposes officers to violent and deadly situations. Line of duty injuries and death are realities of the profession. Potentially lethal work situations coupled with the stress of normal life can be devastating to individuals. “This training will help our chaplains better understand the role of the State Trooper and also provide the training so that chaplains can be an effective resource during traumatic events,” he said. Pam Howard, director for the Center of Traumatology, remarked upon acceptance of the donation, “We are honored to extend our training support to the chaplains of this organization and to have an extraordinary partner in the American Association of State Troopers.” A workshop is planned for Nov. 6 to provide specialized training to selected chaplains from across Georgia who have the responsibility of ministering to the needs of State Troopers, staff and family members, as well as providing primary crisis intervention services in critical incident situations. For more information concerning the workshop, contact the Department of Continuing Education at 770-836-6610. -30- Use
