Wally Lamb Lecture

October 7, 2003

CARROLLTON, GA - Nationally honored teacher and bestselling author Dr. Wally Lamb will read excerpts from two of his books at the Neva Lomason Library on Friday, Oct. 24, at 10 a.m. The presentation is sponsored by the University of West Georgia and follows readings to UWG students on the previous day.

His readings are part of the Shared Text Lecture Series, a program sponsored by the UWG English Department in which all introductory English students read the same book by an author who will come to the University. In the past, authors Janisse Ray and Terry Kay have been featured authors.

Lamb’s books that will be discussed are She’s Come Undone, a number one New York Times bestseller, and Couldn’t Keep it to Myself. She’s Come Undone was also on Oprah’s Book Club selection list.

The lectures are sponsored by the Advanced Academy of Georgia, the College of Arts and Sciences, the Excel Center, Student Services, the Office of Academic Affairs and the English Department.

Lamb is currently an associate professor of creative writing at the University of Connecticut. He is the recipient of the 1998 Governor’s Arts Award for the state of Connecticut and the Missouri Review William Peden fiction prize winner. His other works include published fiction and non-fiction in the Missouri Review, Allure, USA Weekend, The New York Times Magazine, and editor of the poetry collection, Always Begin Where You Are.

The readings at the Neva Lomason Library are free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Department of English and Philosophy at 770-836-6512.
