Ed. Psychology Faculty Member dies in house fire

October 14, 2004

CARROLLTON, GA - Dr. Bradford Woods, assistant professor of educational psychology at the University of West Georgia, died in a fire on Oct. 8 at his Carrollton home.

Dr. Kent Layton, dean of the College of Education, expressed his sorrow at the loss of a valued colleague.
“Dr. Woods was a strong researcher with excellent potential for promotion and tenure. Student evaluations were consistently high and revealed his love for teaching and working with students to reach their potential,” he said.

Woods was in his second year at UWG and taught both undergraduate and graduate classes in the Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology. His research interests were in the areas of effective teaching practices and behaviors, reflective thought patterns of pre-service teachers, and constructivist theory exploration.

Layton noted that Woods' courses will be covered by colleagues in the department and perhaps by part-time faculty until a new faculty member can be recruited.

Woods received both his master’s and doctoral degrees in educational psychology from Texas A&M University and the B.S. in English from Troy State University at Dothan.
