First dissertation presented

CARROLLTON,
GA - The first dissertation to be completed in the Doctor of Education
in School Improvement program at the University of West Georgia
was presented to campus officials by Dr. Ann Baker (seated, right). Baker,
a 30-year veteran of public school systems, received her doctorate in
May. Her dissertation titled “Women Educational Leaders: Beliefs,
Practices and Leadership Characteristics for School Improvement”
focused on a study of principals in schools that had shown an above average
improvement in student achievement, and specifically looked at the gender
differences in leadership style. Accepting the dissertation on behalf
of the UWG Ingram Library was (seated, left) Jan Ruskell, librarian professor.
On hand to congratulate Baker were (standing, l-r) Dr. Deborah Jenkins,
professor of early childhood and director of the doctoral program; Dr.
Robert Morris, professor of educational leadership and Baker’s faculty
advisor; and Dr. Jack Jenkins, dean of the Graduate School.
