2004 Homecoming Festivities October 6, 2004 CARROLLTON, GA - The University of West Georgia is planning a grand time for alumni and friends during Homecoming 2004. The weeklong festivities will begin Monday, Oct. 18, with the student banner contest and end Saturday, Oct. 23, with a reunion dinner. The theme this year will be “West Georgia Grande: Vegas Nights.” The Student Activities Council (SAC) has planned a week full of activities for students. Before Homecoming week begins, the SAC will hold the annual homecoming pageant on Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. in the Townsend Center for the Performing Arts. During Homecoming week, the SAC will play host to a banner contest at the University Community Center (UCC) at noon, Monday, Oct. 18; the Nightmare on Maple Street Costume Ball from 7 p.m. to midnight, Tuesday, Oct. 19, at the Maple Street Mansion in Carrollton. On Friday, Oct. 22, students are invited to a pep rally in front of the UCC at 7 p.m. followed by the Friday After Dark dance at 8 p.m. For UWG alumni, there will be a reunion of classes from the 1930s and 1940s. Early registration will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 22, in the Food Services Building. A group photograph is scheduled for 11:45 a.m. followed by a reunion luncheon featuring Beverly and Tommy Herrington, who will perform musical show tunes for entertainment. On Saturday, the Alumni House will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. where a continental breakfast for $3 per person will be offered for all class years until 10 a.m. The Honors House lawn will be a great setting for watching the Homecoming parade at 10 a.m. At 11:30 a.m., at its annual meeting of the UWG alumni association will elect new members and witness the induction of Mantevius Jackson (’00), Sam Roark (’91), Schwanda Walker Jackson (’94) and Chris Williams (’99) into the West Georgia Braves Hall of Fame. The UWG Richards College of Business alumni will meet between noon and 2 p.m. in Adamson Hall. At 2 p.m., the Braves will battle the Henderson State Reddies at Grisham Stadium on the Carrollton High School campus. Also for a twist, UWG alumni who are married to other UWG alumni will be treated to the Alumni=Alumni “Wedding” Reception in the Alumni House Gardens, where one lucky couple will win a trip for two to Las Vegas, courtesy of Gradick Communications. Alpha Phi Rho/Phi Mu alumni are invited to Boykin Hall’s second floor for a visit and a cocktail party at the Alumni House at 6 p.m. For the Golden Braves (classes 1950-54) there will be a 5:30 p.m. wine and cheese social and a reunion dinner at 6:30 p.m. at the Food Services Building for $20 per person.
