October

CARROLLTON,
GA - Proceeds from the 2004 Governor’s Cup golf tournament featuring
Georgia legislators resulted in a $2,000 donation to the West Georgia
Foundation, Inc. for the Thomas B. Murphy room. The longest tenured Speaker
of the House in Georgia history, Murphy donated his papers and memorabilia
to the Georgia’s Political Heritage Program at the University of West Georgia. The Governor’s Cup is a two-day event featuring
teams from the state senate, the state house, the Georgia business community
and state lobbyists. This year the tournament was played at Sunset Hills
Country Club in Carrollton and The Frog in Villa Rica. Proudly displaying
the trophy are, from left: Dr. Behenuz N. Sethna, president of the University of West Georgia, state Sen. Bill Hamrick, R-Carrollton, state
Rep. Mark Butler, R-Carrollton, Dr. Mel Steely, director of the UWG Georgia’s
Political Heritage Program, and Trip Martin of GeorgiaLink Public Affairs
Group.
