Rock the Vote October 11, 2004 CARROLLTON, GA - The University of West Georgia Student Government Association (SGA), Student Activities Council (SAC) and Black Student Alliance (BSA) invite all UWG students to attend the Rock the Vote meeting in the Bonner Lecture Hall, Tuesday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. This year’s election involves a number of issues that affect young adults and Rock the Vote is encouraging these people to make a difference. For nearly two thirds of college students who graduate with student loan debt, the average burden is almost $19,000 (nearly as high as the national average family debt burden). On top of that, many college students who leave school without a degree owe between $10,000-20,000 in student loans. According to the Rock the Vote Official Website (www.RockTheVote.com) the effects are not limited to college. Hourly wages have fallen by 4.9 percent for female high school graduates, 17.4 percent for men, and unemployment for young adults is typically 40 percent to 50 percent higher than the national average. These statistics are not spontaneous — they have been growing ever since the early ‘80s, and while these trends are escalating, they are not irreversible. UWG, BSA, SAC, SGA encourage all students to attend this free event, and find out how they can make a difference. -30- |
