First UWG doctoral graduate receives dissertation awardOctober 25, 2005 CARROLLTON, GA - Dr. Ann Baker, University of West Georgia’s first graduate student to earn a Doctorate of Education in School Improvement, has received a Distinguished Dissertation Award by the Kappa Delta Pi Educational Foundation. The award gives Baker a $1,000 scholarship toward a continuation of her studies in the field of education. Kappa Delta Pi, an International Honor Society in Education, has 50,000 members registered. Only one outstanding dissertation of a graduate student is chosen each year by the organization. Baker wrote her dissertation on Women Educational Leaders: Beliefs, Practices and Leadership Characteristics for School Improvement. According to the Foundation, Baker’s achievements in education “reflect the qualities expressed in the society’s four ideals: Fidelity to Humanity, Science, Service, and Toil.” Baker is an invited guest at the 45th Biennial Kappa Delta Pi Convocation in Orlando next month where she will be honored for her achievements at a Foundation luncheon on Nov. 4.
