Southeastern Regional Flag Football Tournament

October 25, 2005

CARROLLTON, GA - The NFL is hosting its Southeastern Regional Flag Football Tournament at the University of West Georgia from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., on Oct. 29. More than 400 players, several dozen coaches, and Atlanta Falcons and NFL representatives are expected to attend what will be one of the largest sports events held on the UWG campus.

Initiated in 1996, NFL Flag Football is a five-on-five game for boys and girls ages 6-14. Leagues are easy to start and tournaments are played throughout the country. Every fall, NFL Flag Football leagues compete in regional tournaments around the country.

Winning teams from each age bracket will go on to participate in the NFL FLAG National Tournament of Champions in November at the Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex.

The university is one of seven sites in the nation where the tournaments will be played this fall. UWG hosted 25 camps this year and is gaining the reputation of being a hospitable place for sports events. Sports Illustrated featured Michael Vick, the Atlanta Falcons quarterback, hosting a camp for youngsters on the UWG campus in July.
