Luso-Hispanic Day

October 7, 2005

CARROLLTON, GA - The Spanish section of the Department of Foreign Language will host a traditional celebration of Luso-Hispanic Day, Wednesday, Oct. 12.

The celebration begins early with a presentation by advanced Spanish students in the Kathy Cashen auditorium from 9 a.m. to noon. The morning session includes a retelling of student experiences in Mexico, a panel discussion on studying Spanish language and culture and planning for further education and career plans. Volunteer opportunities using language and cultural skills in the community will also be discussed.

Almuerzo or lunch will continue the fiesta at Cobb Hall. Afterward, participants can meet for an hour of music in the Humanities building where the UWG Jazz and Percussion group will entertain with Latin American compositions.

In addition to enjoying Spanish and Latino culture, there will be a commemoration of the 400th anniversary of the publication of Don Quijote de la Mancha (1605) by Miguel de Cervantes.
