MAP sponsors Move Me!October 28, 2005 CARROLLTON, GA - It only takes one person to make a difference. That is the idea behind the Move Me! project sponsored by the Multicultural Achievement Program (MAP) at the University of West Georgia. MAP hosted the Move Me! event to reach underprivileged children in Carroll County. The project is part of “Make a Difference Day,” a creation of a national day of helping by USA WEEKEND. The Move Me! project brought 37 children ages 6 to 18 to the UWG campus for a day of fun activities promoting personal wellness, career development, self awareness and academic enrichment. The Douglas County Family Assessment, New Hope Boys Home and the Carroll County Housing Authority participated in the event. UWG minority student organizations volunteered for the project and included the Black Student Alliance, EXCEL First Year and HOPE mentors, Iota Phi Theta, MAP mentors, NAACP, Omega Psi Phi, Phi Beta Sigma, Sigma Gamma Rho and Zeta Phi Beta. Student members of the organizations coordinated many activities including a campus scavenger hunt, career skits, conflict resolution and face painting.
