International students present Cultural Panel

October 11, 2005

CARROLLTON, GA - When students from all around the world come to the University of West Georgia to continue their education, they each bring unique facets of their culture with them. UWG currently has 130 international students representing 42 different countries, which will be reflected at the biannual cultural panel on Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. in the Bonner Lecture Hall.

The countries represented will include Japan, Bulgaria, Montserrat, Australia, Russia, Germany, Spain, India, Sri Lanka, The Gambia, Colombia, Scotland, Nigeria, Jamaica and El Salvador. Students will speak for five minutes each, covering topics such as economics, geography, culture and politics. Audience members will have a chance to ask questions at the end.

“This is a great opportunity for students, faculty, staff and the community to learn more about other countries and cultures,” said Sylvia Shortt, advisor for the International Student Club.

For more information about the panel, contact Shortt in the Department of Student Development at 678-839-6428 or by email at sshortt@westga.edu.
