Run for A DAY

October 3, 2005

CARROLLTON, GA - Lace up those running shoes and get ready for the 2005 Run for A DAY on Thursday, Oct 6. The Run for A Day is being sponsored by West Georgia National Bank for the fifth year and contributes to the fundraising campaign for the University of West Georgia.

Linda Picklesimer, UWG director of Student Activities and race director, coordinates the event because she believes in the cause it supports.

“The Run for A DAY allows a lot of people to participate in one event to raise money for student scholarships and also encourages student participation in the campaign that otherwise would not be available,” she said.

The run consists of three events: a Tot-Trot for ages 2-6 that begins promptly at 5:15 p.m., a one mile walk/run beginning at 5:45 p.m., and a 5K run beginning at 6:15 p.m. The one-mile walk/run and 5K races will be divided into divisions that are arranged by age and gender.

The cost of entry is $15 per individual, $20 per family, and $7 per UWG student with a current student I.D. There is no registration or fee required for the Tot-Trot. T-shirts will be given to all who register prior to the day of the run.

Unique awards created by UWG Professor of Art Cameron Covert will be awarded to winners of the 5K race in the following categories: overall male and female, overall male and female UWG students, and overall male and female master runner. Ribbons will be awarded to all finishers in the walk/ run event.

The races will begin and end at the University Community Center located on the UWG campus. Refreshments, fruit and pizza will be available to all participants after each race. All races will be held rain or shine and parking is limited, so participants are encouraged to arrive early.
