Tartuffe performances begin today

October 5, 2005

CARROLLTON, GA - Add a dash of thieves, a drop of ignorance, a sprinkle of lovers, one hypocrite and what do you have? An uproarious scandal also known as Jean Baptiste Molière’s classic French play Tartuffe.

The production will be performed by the University of West Georgia Theatre Company at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday–Saturday, Oct. 5–8, and 2:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 9, in the Townsend Center for the Performing Arts main stage theatre.

The play is filled with provocative scenes and surprising scandals. As the plot unfolds, the audience is introduced to the religious hypocrite Tartuffe. Tartuffe presents himself as “holier than thou,” but in actuality he is a cunning con man with deceitful intentions.

The UWG Theatre Company will also host its third annual pre-production banquet at an alumni reception at 5:30 p.m., Oct. 8, at the Martha Munro Building. The invitation is extended to all UWG graduates to meet and greet UWG students and the cast of Tartuffe.

Students and the cast of Tartuffe will have a chance to mingle with alumni while enjoying a bite to eat. After the dinner, alumni will proceed to the Townsend Center for the Performing Arts to enjoy the performance of Tartuffe.

Come be entertained as the UWG Theatre Company kicks off its 2005–06 season with Molière’s Tartuffe. Tickets are $10 for guests and free for students with a UWG ID. For ticket information, call 678-839-4722.
