Students participate in triathlonOctober 17, 2005 CARROLLTON, GA - Weeks of training, endurance and stamina are what gave two students at the University of West Georgia the edge in the Hughston Orthopedic Hospital Fitness Series Triathlon at Callaway Gardens. Tara Mostowy of Alpharetta and Heath Milligan of Sharpsburg competed in a 1k swim, 30k bike and 8k run event and finished in the top ten of their age groups. Mostowy, a senior biology major, finished third and less than two minutes behind the first place winner. In addition to training and competing in triathlons, Mostowy works as a lifeguard and kayak instructor in the Department of Intramurals. Milligan, a management major, is a member of the Army Reserves and recently served a year in Iraq. He finished eighth in his age group and said training for the event inspires him. “Waking up every day, catching a morning swim, hitting the trails for a run, it’s great,” said Milligan. “These things get me going.” Both Milligan and Mostowy are planning to participate in the state championships in 2006. -30- |
