Chester Gibson High School Debate Tournament November 25, 2003 CARROLLTON, GA - The University of West Georgia will sponsor the annual Chester Gibson High School Debate Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 12 and 13. Georgia High School Association schools from across the state, and a few schools from Alabama, will participate in the two-day tournament that begins at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. “The UWG Debate Team offers the tournament as a service to the high school debate community,” says Michael Hester, assistant to the dean of the Honors College and director of debate. “It provides an opportunity for high school students to participate in interscholastic debate.” West Georgia’s debate team has hosted a high school debate tournament since 1970. The name was changed two years ago to honor Dr. Chester Gibson, retired chairman of the Department of Mass Communications and Theatre Arts and debate coach. The event is free and open to the public.
