"Dimly Perceived Threats to the System" performances

November 17, 2004

CARROLLTON, GA - Although the first two shows sold out, there’s still time to catch one of the University of West Georgia Theatre Company’s upcoming performances of Jon Klein’s “Dimly Perceived Threats to the System,” described by the “Baltimore Sun” as “an end-of-the-millennium comedy about a family on the verge of a nervous breakdown. . . .”

UWG News PhotoIn this dark comedy about family life in the 1990s, Klein explores the disarray of the family unit — specifically the unit of the Hauser family. Marlys Hauser is a management consultant who can’t seem to manage her own family. Her husband, Josh, is directing a documentary about the American family in crisis while having an affair with his producer. Meanwhile, their troubled teenage daughter, Christine, is busy torturing her school counselor.

The family’s efforts to cope with each other and with society are told in a tale that the “Sun” calls “Trenchant and hilarious.”

The play’s first and second showings on Nov. 17 and 18 sold out, but seats are still available for the three weekend performances, which are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 19, and Saturday, Nov. 20, and for 2:30 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 21, in the Townsend Center for the Performing Arts Black Box.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for seniors, $3 for children and free for UWG students. Seating is limited and reservations are required; contact the Townsend Center at 678-839-4722.
