Saxophone Ensemble Performances

November 8, 2005

CARROLLTON, GA - The University of West Georgia will present two fall music concerts performed by its Saxophone Studio and Saxophone Ensemble groups at Kathy Cashen Hall this month.

The musicians will present a recital on Thursday, Nov.10, at 8:15 p.m. to celebrate the birthday of Adolphe Sax, the inventor of the saxophone. The Saxophone Studio is a group of UWG students and the Saxophone Ensemble comprises undergraduate students, graduate students and faculty.

Performances include original 19th century compositions written by composers Jean Baptiste Singelee, Jules Demersemann and Hector Berlioz.

The second event is scheduled on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 8:15 p.m. and features the Saxophone Ensemble performing a wide range of classics including Sicut Locus Est from Johann Sebastian Bach's Magnificat in D and Percy Grainger's Mo Nighean Dubh and The Hunter in His Career.

Both performances are under the direction of Dr. John Bleuel, associate professor of music.

Soprano saxophonist Patti Kelley, a UWG graduate, will perform a solo of Allesandro Marcello's Concerto in C Minor.
