RCOB Visionary Endowment establishedNovember 17, 2005 CARROLLTON, GA - The Richards College of Business (RCOB) at the University of West Georgia received generous support from an alumna who is a devoted fan of the business college. Mary Covington, executive vice president of First National Bank of Georgia and president of the RCOB Board of Visitors, donated the first gift to the new RCOB Visionary Endowment.
“This endowment is designed to be flexible and will be structured to remain an endowment forever,” said Covington, who earned an MBA at the university in 1988. “My father, Hardy S. McCalman, believed in education and always supported the university. I was thinking of him when I gave this gift. It’s a real opportunity for the community to have a school of this high quality in the area.” Covington, family members and friends funded the McCalman Executive Roundtable, a consortium of business leaders, UWG staff and faculty and students, in her parents name. Donations to the RCOB Visionary Endowment will be used to fund faculty fellowships, student research and travel, staff development programs and outreach programs for the RCOB. Dr. Faye McIntyre, dean of the Richards College of Business, said the gift and the endowment are a big plus for the business college. “Mary has always been a big supporter of the Richards College of Business,” said McIntyre. “She is very committed to the success of the students, the faculty and the staff. We’ll be celebrating our 10th anniversary in 2007 and this gift and endowment are good ways to prepare for that.” For more information on the RCOB Visionary Endowment, contact McIntyre at 678-839-6467 or fmcintyr@westga.edu. -30- |
