Graduation Ceremonies Saturday December 13, 2004 CARROLLTON, GA - The University of West Georgia will conduct two commencement ceremonies on Saturday, Dec. 18. Students from the Graduate School and undergraduates from the Richards College of Business will obtain their diplomas at 9:30 a.m. while undergraduate students from the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Education will march at 1 p.m. Both ceremonies will take place in the HPE Building on campus. When the University converted to semesters, the number of commencement ceremonies was reduced from four to three. This created an overflow crowd for the December ceremony held indoors. For the comfort and safety of graduates and their guests, the crowd is reduced by hosting separate ceremonies. Dr. Thomas J. Hynes, vice president for academic affairs, will preside at both events. Traditionally, students representing each college present the commencement address at the December ceremony. Speakers at the morning ceremony from the Graduate School will be Stephanie Miller Carrollton, College of Arts and Sciences; Gozde Coklu of Istanbul, Richards College of Business; Danette Smith of Marietta, College of Education; and undergraduate speaker Rachel Mack of Jonesboro, Richards College of Business. Afternoon speakers are Toma Omonuwa of Douglasville and Sunitha Shenoi of Carrollton, College of Arts and Sciences; Allison Buckner from Jackson and Matthew Huckeba of Carrollton, College of Education. Assisting Hynes during the ceremonies will be Dr. Sandra Stone, associate vice president for academic affairs; Dr. Jack Jenkins, graduate school dean; Dr. Faye McIntyre, interim dean of the Richards College of Business; Dr. Kent Layton, dean of the College of Education; Dr. Pauline Gagnon, interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences; and Dr. Don Wagner, dean of the Honors College. -30- |
