Handel's Messiah

December 1, 2004

CARROLLTON, GA - Kevin Hibbard, professor of music and chair at the University of West Georgia, will direct the combined forces of the UWG Concert Choir, the Sanctuary Choir of Carrollton First Baptist Church, professional vocal soloists, a string quartet, and organ in a presentation of Part I of Georgia Frederic Handel’s “Messiah.”

The concert will be held Sunday, Dec. 5, at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the UWG Townsend Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets are $10; $7 for seniors; $3 for children; and free for UWG student with ID.

First performed in 1742, this beloved, world-famous oratorio is one of the giants of the choral repertoire. Its familiar solos and large, often intricate choruses range from a reflective style to the triumph and grandeur of the final “Hallelujah” chorus.
