Reading Day Relaxation at the EXCEL Center December 9, 2004 CARROLLTON, GA - The University of West Georgia’s EXCEL Center sponsors a special event each semester before final exams. On Reading Day, Friday, Dec. 10, students are invited to the Center located in Strozier Hall to play games, get massages and watch movies to relax before final exams. There will be free food and drinks for students. According to DeLandra M. Hunter, assistant director of EXCEL and coordinator of the Multicultural Achievement Program (MAP), this year MAP is adding a Festival of Lights display to educate students on the festivals of Las Posadas and Loy Krathong. The displays, available from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., will feature the history of the festivals and give students the opportunity to make crafts common to the festivals. The Student Activities Council (SAC) is partnering with the EXCEL Center this year to bring a cakewalk and ice cream social to the Reading Day activities. The EXCEL Center for Academic Success is a department on campus devoted solely to the academic success of all students with special programs for first year, transfer and undecided students.
