Kim Holder

Kim Holder is the Director of the University of West Georgia’s Center for Economic Education and Financial Literacy and Senior Lecturer of Economics in the Richards College of Business where she teaches undergraduate economics courses, serves as a faculty research mentor for undergraduate students, and facilitates regional, state, national, and international outreach to K-16 students, teachers, and their surrounding communities. She’s an alumna of UWG and Georgia State University’s Andrew Young School of Policy Studies and the immediate Past-President of the National Association of Economic Educators.

Holder’s academic research focuses on developing creative tools and techniques in economics education that broaden the reach of economics to diverse audiences. She created the National Rockonomix® Contest (Journal of Economic Education) which uses music to teach economics and has been instrumental in integrating popular media into economic education through the use of selfies (International Review of Economic Education), the arts (Journal of Economics and Finance Education), television, and movies (International Journal of Pluralism and Economics Education). She writes instructional resources for teaching economists and authored The Ultimate Guide to Teaching Macroeconomics (W.W. Norton), the Digital Implementation Guide for Mankiw’s Principles of Economics (Cengage), and edited Off-Campus Study, Study Abroad, and Study Away in Economics: Leaving the Blackboard Behind (Springer). Her award-winning work has been featured in Georgia Trend magazine and recognized by the National Economics Teaching Association, the National Association of Economic Educators, and the University System of Georgia Board of Regents.

Holder helped establish the Journal of Economics Teaching as a founding board member and serves on the boards of the Journal of Private Enterprise, Huntington Junior College, the Association of Private Enterprise Education, the National Association of Economic Educators, the Network Advisory Council of the Council for Economic Education, and the UWG Athletic Foundation. In the past 7 years, she has raised and directed approximately $1.8 million in grants and gifts focused on providing inclusive and unique pathways to economics and financial literacy.
