The University of West Georgia started as the Fourth District Agricultural and Mechanical School, in 1906. It became a Junior College in 1934, and then a Senior College in 1957. In 1996 West Georgia College achieved its status as a State University. It started with humble beginnings and has transformed into a place that students and faculty are able to push for new possibilities with scholarly achievements, creative expression, and service to humanity.
