MLA, the Eighth Edition

The Eighth edition of MLA has changed some of the formatting of the Works Cited page. The order in which information is listed is as follows:

Author. Title of Source. Title of Container, Other Contributors, Version, Number, Publisher, Publication date, Location.

The template for film is as follows:

Title of Movie. Directed by_____, performance by ____, Distributor, year.

The template for television shows is as follows:

Title of Show. Created by ___, performance by ____, Production Company, years of Series.

Below are a few examples of the information required for the MLA reference page citations:

If the focus of the paper is the television show:

Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Created by Joss Whedon, performance by Sarah

            Michelle Gellar, Mutant Enemy, 1997-2003.

If the paper focuses on a specific person from the production, like a performer or the creator:

Gellar, Sarah Michelle, performer. Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Mutant Enemy,

            1997-2003.

Whedon, Joss, creator. Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Mutant Enemy, 1997-2003.

If the paper focuses on a specific episode:

 “Hush.” Buffy the Vampire Slayer, created by Joss Whedon, performance by

            Sarah Michelle Gellar, season 4, episode 10, Mutant Enemy, 1999.

If the television show is found on DVD set:

“Hush.” 1999. Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Complete Fourth Season, created by

            Joss Whedon, performance by Sarah Michelle Gellar, episode 10,

            Twentieth Century Fox, 2003, disc 3.

If the television show is found streaming online:

“Under the Gun.” Pretty Little Liars, season 4, episode 6, ABC Family, 16 July
