• What is the University Writing Center (UWC)?

The Writing Center is an extension of the classroom.

  • Who can utilize the UWC?

Any currently enrolled student at the University of West Georgia. We now support Staff as well.

  • Who do students meet with for appointments?

Students meet with either English professors or English Grad students.

  • What happens during an appointment?

The student's concerns and questions will be answered by a professional in the field of writing.

  • Can I require my entire class to bring their papers to the UWC?

No, entire classes will greatly strain our resources.

  • Will I know when one of my students uses the UWC?

We can provide a verification slip to the student to verify an appointment.

  • Can I send students to the UWC for proofreading?

Unfortunately, we do not provide proofreading or editing services. Students however can receive help with any type of writing concern or issue from one of our tutors.

  • Will the UWC help students document sources?

Yes, we can help with citations. MLA is the citation style most familiar to the tutors, but they can also help with APA and Chicago.

  • Can a student drop off a paper and pick it up later?

    No, all sessions are face-to-face.

  • How does the UWC help with group papers?

We do not offer group sessions; however, a representative from the group can sit down with a tutor to go over any writing concerns.

  • Why are there still errors in my student's work?

Tutors in the UWC are not responsible for the quality of the student's final work.
