In the decades since the passing of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., his work to ensure a more equitable future has continued to inspire us at the University of West Georgia, even manifesting in our strategic plan and our priority to seamlessly integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion in all our actions to foster a sense of belonging and connectedness for our university community.

Being in close proximity to Dr. King’s birthplace in the Atlanta metropolitan area, the legacy of Dr. King lives on in an intimate way at UWG. That closeness creates special opportunities for our university community, including welcoming Ms. Jawana Jackson as our speaker at UWG’s 13th annual MLK Celebration next Tuesday, Jan. 18, at 6 p.m. in the Campus Center.

The most meaningful tribute we can offer to Dr. King’s memory this – and every – year is to live each day by the principles he defended: courage, truth, justice, compassion, dignity, humility, and service.
